Osteosarcoma

What is Osteosarcoma? Osteosarcoma is a type of cancer that originates in the cells that form bones (osteoblasts). It can affect any bone but is most often found in the legs and arms.

Symptoms of Osteosarcoma

Symptoms of osteosarcoma vary depending on the location and size of the tumor, as well as whether the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Symptoms may include:

  • Swelling Near a Bone
  • Tenderness and discomfort
  • Bone or Joint Pain
  • Bone Injury or Break for No Clear Reason
  • Limited Range of Motion

Treatment for Osteosarcoma

The treatment of osteosarcoma requires a coordinated approach involving various medical specialties tailored to the individual. Common treatment options include standard cancer therapies such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and targeted therapy. If a tumor is too large or fails to respond to these treatments, limb amputation may become necessary. Physical and occupational therapy is often vital to aid recovery and adaptation following amputation.
